MY TIME WITH BOOTSY======

Sometimes crazy things happen in life, sometimes weird things happen in life, sometimes inexplicable things happen in life, sometimes they all combine and create something that goes beyond all of that and you can never explain it.  My time with bootsy could be considered one of those.

When i heard bootsy was coming to lecture i freaked out. I grew up on dre and i´ve spent extensive months of my life only listening to the pfunk to study everything about them. They are probably the most important band to me for many reasons. Sonics, feel, the synths, bernie, boots, eddie hazel, the art, the drugs, not giving a fuck.. all of it.. who can top them.   

On the wed before bootsy´s lecture we ran into each other in the hallway and i said whats up… we had a nice little chat and he was like yo you wanna jam tomorrow and i said of course.. figuring i would play some minimoog.. be a fake bernie and turn the pitch wheel..  little did i know.

The next day comes and they start setting up… ben comes up to me and says are you ready to jam. i was like of course…  he said.. we want you on bass… i was like are you fucking kidding me. i dont play bass. ( i do a tad but i didnt consider myself ready to play in front of the god bootsy)… he said no you have tooo.. so i was like fuck it.. ok.. tryin to get into these weird situations and go with it these days…

we got into the room.. it was myself on bass, jivraj from calcutta on drums, andrea from mexico on piano and grayson from new zealand on guitar… bootsy came in and we started cracking some jokes….  i had the bass.. he was like yea im thinking something funky and a little bit rock…   i started playing black dog by led zeppelin on bass cuz its one of the first things that came to my head…   we all started jammign on the riff and bootsy was like telling me to add little ghost notes and funky pick up shit.. it was pretty sick…     we jammed on that for about 20 minutes..

then i started playing another little riff.. we all started smiling and bootsy was like yeeeaeh. i like that… he started directign us and suddenly a rolling chorus came.. he was singing a guitar line to grayson and we were into it…  then the bridge came.. back to the chorus.. bam.. we wrote a sick fucking song in 20 minutes.. we played it over and over with bootsy direction us to the bridge and to hit it hard nad stay in the pocket.. he was full on…   we took a break for thanksgiving.. the chef veronique was kind enough to cook us turkey…

back into the studio.. the real studio… we knocked the song out live.. maybe took 4’5 takes but we ended up keeping a whole take cut live… pretty fucking awesome.. doesnt happen that much anymore…  dorian concept came and destroyed some synth// piano and jesse boykins put down some vox… i think its gonna turn out great.  

we all went to bed lifted on the experience…

next day…. booty´s lecture…  i cant say much beyond watch.. he spoke to me the whole time and its quite possibly the most surreal and funny moment thats ever happened to me… we went up and played the song so you can hear it as well…

the pic below is after our whole class did the listening session and we played the bootsy song.. after that i got to dj let me ride and id rather be with you to boots while we all drank and danced..
